Cold Air Intake

Cold air intake benefits. Cold air intake. Have you ever tried snorkeling with a straw? Now the likeness of that compared to how you vehicle is breathing is not a completely fair comparison. After all you vehicle will not die in the next ten minutes from lack of oxygen to the mother board. How about? Have you ever tried to run a block breathing through a straw? You could probably do it but chances are you are not going to catch the neighbor kid who just ran his bike over your beautiful roses. This is exactly what you vehicle is doing right now. Good thing for you this can fix this.

Now there is no one miracle part on the marked that is going to turn your car or truck into a fire breathing mileage maker but a good kit is the first step into increasing the life of your vehicle, gaining horsepower and increasing mileage. Get the air coming in that will increase flow while decreasing the amount of particles that get to the heart of your motor.

The first component to look at when choosing one is the filter box. If you want to increase flow you have to decrease resistance and a good open box is the way to go. Don’t get me wrong you still need to have it sealed to the hood to prevent dirt and debris from getting in but it needs to be open at the front where the filter starts. AFE intakes are a prime example of this.

The second thing to concern yourself with is the filter you will always want to make sure you are getting a filter that is washable and reusable. This is how you are going to make your money back on this investment. Baring any damage you should never have to purchase another filter again. Most recently the development of the DRY filter is the best option and in my opinion ranks higher than the oiled filters of yesteryear. Just as good of filtration without the risk of sucking excess oil into the engine.

And finally the tube. It is recommended to go with what is called a stage two kit if available for your application. These kits include the smooth bore tube that allows the air to flow with ease. Selecting a kit with the proper tube is critical. GO BIG or go home! You want the largest diameter tube you can find for your vehicle. Big diameter means more of everything, power, mileage etc. Another key factor is tube material. Now I know that shiny metal is pretty but metal retains heat and that would kind of defeat the purpose of the of the whold thing now doesn’t it. Cool air is more combustible and once again this is a key feature in getting more. So whenever possible stick with an intake that is primarily or completely made of plastic. You now have all you need to know to get the right intake for you. We sell many brands of these but AFE incorporates everything listed above into their systems so I would recommend taking a look.

P.S. Fire breathing mileage maker is only a few steps away exhaust and performance chip!
